Kenner Police book second suspect in an attempted robbery and ...

Authorities have arrested a second suspect accused of shooting at the home of Kenner man and trying to rob him at gunpoint. Cardell "Apple Head" Miles, 24, of River Ridge was taken into custody after a traffic stop in Harahan Sunday, according to arrest reports.

Investigators?suspect Miles was with alleged accomplice Christopher "Yellow" Batiste, 31, when he tried to rob an unidentified man outside of a Moray Street residence on Oct. 1. Batiste, with Miles allegedly in tow, returned to the house three days later and opened fire with an assault rifle, according to arrest reports. No one was injured, but two adults and three young children were inside the home at the time.

Kenner Police arrested Batiste on Oct. 5 in connection with the two incidents and a third encounter involving another member of the same family.?Batiste's wife, Enchantra Lathers, 30, was also taken into custody and later arrested after investigators discovered her four children had been home alone at their Kenner apartment for hours.

Lathers confessed that Batiste told her Miles had been involved with the robbery attempt and the shooting. The victim later identified Miles as the second suspect in the case, the report said. Detectives then obtained a warrant for Miles.

He was arrested Sunday night, the passenger in a vehicle stopped in the 1700 block of Hickory Avenue in Harahan for failing to yield to a stop sign, according to an arrest report. The arresting officer noted that the driver, Dominick Hillard, 18, began choking and gagging during the traffic stop. He eventually vomited up a clear plastic bag containing several white rocks that later tested positive for cocaine, an arrest report said.

Miles was booked with possession of marijuana in connection with the traffic stop. Hillard was booked with drug possession with the intent to distribute, the reports said.

Miles, who was still incarcerated at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, was booked Monday with attempted armed robbery and aggravated criminal damage to property in the Kenner case. Bond was set at $300,000.
